for my first photoshop project I chose to do surreal mist, the picture on the right is my example of the photoshop top secret tutorial. the picture on the left is my own surreal mist project. originally my idea for my own project was to give everything a gloomy feel but I ended up going with this because I liked the look of it more. It didn't turn out like I thought it would but I like this more. One thing I like about my project was the color of the sky and how I was able to make it lighter as it gets closer to the horizon. I think it gives it an interesting effect. My favorite part of this project was learning how to make the mist streams because I think it gives a really cool effect to both of the photos above. My favorite aspect of this project was being able to do my own surreal mist. My least favorite aspect was having to sit through some of the boring parts of the tutorial. On a scale from 1 to 10 I would rate my project as an 8. Over all this class is going well for me even though I am just starting. I think I will enjoy photoshop as I learn more about how it works.

great job, destry! both images are both interesting and attractive. i'm particularly impressed by the silky smooth, almost iridescent mist you were able to achieve in the tutorial version. your original image is also very cool -- i like the way the girl in the boat is looking off into the distance. and that gradient mask on the sky is very subtly and realistic -- great job. i think one improvement you could make to the original image would be to mask out the mist over her paddle, the back of the boat, and the left-most rock -- i think it might make the mist look more organic. overall, great first project. keep it up!
